Online Clinical Counselling from a Trans Perspective
Trans Counselling

About
Taylor Innes (She/Her)
Registered Clinical Counselor with the BCACC (18475)

I am a clinical counsellor who, as of January 26, 2022, has transitioned from male to female. People in the trans community are often misunderstood by those we turn to for help. It can be an uncomfortable experience to have a counsellor who lacks critical knowledge and experience needed to understand your perspective, and not feeling understood by your counsellor can make it difficult to engage in counselling or make positive growth.
I am trained in providing counselling to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and specialize in attending to trans clients and those supporting them. My mandate is to provide safe, compassionate, non-stigmatizing, client-centered care to anyone who feels that they might benefit from having a trans counsellor. While this mandate focuses largely on the trans population, you may have other reasons for wanting a trans counsellor, and I am here for you. I am trained to provide counselling for a wide range of issues, and our sessions may explore trans-specific concerns or any other issue you would benefit from talking about. I am trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and attuned to the harm and despair caused by oppression.

As a counsellor, I believe strongly that you have the right to tell your story, in your words, and to set goals that work for you. Although I have expertise when it comes to counselling psychology, you are the expert on your life and your experience. I work collaboratively with my clients to make progress that is significant to them and aligns with their goals, hopes, and needs. I will never reduce your identity to a diagnosis or define you by your problems. Instead, I use my extensive educated knowledge to offer perspectives that help understand your experiences and how to grow from them.
As they say in narrative therapy,
“The person is not the problem,
the problem is the problem”

Counselling Owl
Counselling Owl loves you very much, and their favorite thing to do is watch our sessions from the background, quietly supporting you. They rarely speak, but their look of adoration and pride in you says more than words ever could. Counselling Owl sits in on all my sessions and has even been an active participant! Their interests include counselling, being an owl, sitting, rock climbing, and listening to clients. Nothing is more important to Counselling Owl than your wellness, and they will do anything they can to support you in your times of need
